There’s too much talk in real estate about what people can afford. What really matters is what people want to spend. There are a million reasons a buyer who can afford a more expensive home will choose not to spend that much. This may be especially true for folks buying a second home in Hawaii. I have heard people say, “We’re not going to be home much anyway when we’re there. All we’re gonna do is sleep in the place!” When you’re snorkeling at Two Step immersed in a magical underwater world, it may not matter at all if your home is a 400 square foot condo or a 5,000 square foot mansion. If you’re doing Hawaii right, maybe at that moment, you are home?
